Three Filipino bets in the Asian Beach Games open marathon swimming did their best but failed to deliver during Friday’s competition at the Bien Dong Park in Danang City, Vietnam.

Thailand’s Benjaporn Sriphanomthorn pocketed the gold medal in 1:05:57.6 while Chinese Shan Lei took the silver in 1:05:59.2. Chinese Yilin Li clocked 1:06:01.9 took the bronze.
Jessie Khing Lacuna also missed a podium finish in the men’s 10km event, clocking 2:26:53.6 for 11th place.
Kazakhstan’s Vitaliy Khudyakov clocked 2:02:07.2 to claim the gold medal. Chinese Wenhao Wang won the silver in 2:04.55.9 while Syrian Saleh Mohammad clocked 2:06:20.4 to settle for the bronze medal.
“The Team Philippines swimmers did more than well in the open marathon. I personally witnessed the intensity and level of difficulty of the event – the sea condition. Yet, they all finished the race when other countries were not able to finish it. I am proud of our swimmers,” said Philippine delegation Chef de Mission Karen Tanchanco-Caballero, who is also president of the Philippine Amateur Sepak Takraw Association.
The Philippines will try its luck anew on Sunday, with Axel Toni Steven Ngui competing in the men’s 5km event, while Adorna and Gray are seeing action in the women’s 10km event.
