Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao is focusing on his senatorial duty rather than thinking the reported October comeback fight.
Pacquiao’s long time business manager Eric Pineda said it was the Top Rank Promotions luring the newly-elected senator to come out of retirement and fight either Adrien Broner, Terence Crawford and Danny Garcia in October.
“That’s what the promoter is trying to do convincing Manny [Pacquiao] to fight in October, but it won’t happen, not so fast,” Pineda told The Manila Times on Sunday during a phone interview. “There are a lot of things to do as a senator.”
It needs more time to train to regain his strength and condition, according to Pineda.
But even he trains in Manila, Pacquiao’s senate job will be definitely affected.
Besides being a senator, Pacquiao is also a playing coach of Mahindra in the Philippine Basketball Association.
“That’s nothing. Manny will not return in October. That is very hard because he is a working senator now. It is a tougher job than being a congressman. But as what I’ve said who knows? Manny might have a change of heart,” Pineda said.
“It is not going to happen now, I think. He is focusing on his work,” he said.
Earlier, Top Rank Promotions chief Bob Arum said he is anticipating a possible Pacquiao comeback that’s why he’s working on possible opponents.
Arum is planning to go to Manila after the US Independence Day to discuss the matter with Pacquiao.
“Let’s see what will be Manny’s decision after we talk there,” said Arum.
