No stray bullets in CAR


BAGUIO CITY: Cordillera Regional Police Director Chief Supt. Isagani Nerez claimed that no member of the Cordillera police shot firearms during the Christmas season revelries.

He said there were no gun- related incidents reported in the region during the celebration of Christmas and New Year.

Although there were 36 firecracker- related injuries in the whole region as reported by the Department of Health, Nerez added.

The newly installed police regional director had earlier decided that there would be no sealing of guns or muzzling of firearms of policemen in the region which is usually done yearly to prevent policemen from using their firearms during the revelries as he had high regard for the disciplined Cordillera policemen.

Nerez said the PRO-Cor was the only police force that did not do the traditional gun muzzling and that he is proud that no policeman fired a single shot during the festive celebrations.

“This shows the high state of discipline of the PNP Cordillera, I am very happy,” he said.

Nerez also disclosed that PNP personnel in the region had no Christmas or New Year vacation and were are all on duty during the holidays to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike. They were on full alert with the arrival of President Benigno Aquino 3rd in Baguio City and the influx of people to Baguio and in the provinces.

Nerez reported that the President who took a brief break in the city had ordered the PNP thru Police Director Gen. Alan Purisima to make sure that the Cordillera particularly Baguio City and Benguet remain peaceful.

The city government of Baguio reported over 1 million tourists during the holiday season and more are coming to experience the cool weather of the city as the temperature continues to drop.
