THE Supreme Court has refused to stop the operation of the Obando, Bulacan sanitary landfill project after the Court of Appeals has junked the appeal of the town residents against the establishment of a sanitary landfill.
In a one-page Resolution of the SC en banc, signed and promulgated by Atty. Enriqueta E. Vidal, Clerk of Court of the en banc, the court did not issue a temporary environmental protection order or Tepo against the project.
Instead the SC ordered the owners of the project, the Ecoshield Development Corporation (EDC), to submit a comment within 10 days.
The petitioners led by Obando residents Maria Teresa S. Bondoc and Conrado C. Lumabas Jr., elevated their case with the high court, after the appeals court has declared as legal and environmentally safe the landfill of Ecoshield Development Corporation project owned by business magnate and former ambassador Antonio Cabangon-Chua and his son Edgard Cabangon.
