Nomads FC ended the first round with a victory over Pasargad FC, 4-0, in the United Football League on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
Stephen Appiah once again starred for the Nomads after scoring a brace to propel his crew over Pasargad.
The uneventful first half ended in favor of the Nomads as Appiah managed to find the back of the net twice in the 42nd and 44th minutes snatch a 2-0 lead at the half.
Pasargad FC fought hard on the other end in the second half in hopes of reducing the deficit but was unable to pierce through the defense of the Nomads.
The offense of the surging Nomads extended their lead to 3-0 as Appiah found Jon Aaron Carlos unmarked deep inside their opponents’ territory for a shot on goal.
Appiah played playmaker for their team for the second time as his pass located Juan Gonzales in the 78th minute to send the final shot of the match.
It was a closely played game in the possession battle as Nomads controlled the ball 57 percent of regulation against Pasargad’s 43 percent while having a 9-4 edge on the shots on target.
After a five-game losing skid, the Nomads capped off their initial 11 games in the tournament on a high note.
Nomads FC opened the season with a default win over Agila MSA FC before falling to JP Voltes FC, 0-5, Ceres La Salle FC, 0-6, and Kaya FC, 1-16. They bounced back with a 2-1 win over Forza FC through the goals of Appiah and Kevin Binas.
However, the triumph of the Nomads over Forza did not spark momentum for their side as they were handed five consecutive losses in their next outings.
Nomads suffered defeats against Stallion FC, 2-4, Green Archers United FC, 3-4, Loyola Meralco Sparks FC, 2-9, Laos FC, 3-8, and Global FC, 0-12.
Nomads will be entering the next round with a record of three wins and eight losses at the ninth spot of the standings while Pasargad is still at the bottom with a draw and 10 defeats.
