NONITO “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. has arrived in Macau to complete the last phase of his training roughly a week before his title fight against reigning World Boxing Association featherweight champion South African Simpiwe Vetyeka on May 31.
Nonito’s father assured Filipino boxing fans that the former super bantamweight champion is getting better in terms of skills and condition.
“It will be a very tough fight. Vetyeka is wise and powerful puncher, but Nonito is in a great shape and condition,” Nonito’s father told The Manila Times on Saturday in a phone interview before leaving for Macau. “We will see a new Donaire in this fight.”
Donaire Jr. (32-2 win-loss record with 21 knockouts) is expected to rely on counter-punching against Vetyeka (26-2 win-loss card with 16 knockouts).
“We already watched his [Vetyeka’s] fights in various video. He is good and we studied everything. Nonito should rely on good counter-punching. If Nonito hits him with accurate punches as what I said before, Nonito will win,” added Nonito Sr.
