A Quezon City court entered a not guilty plea for businessman Domingo “Sandy’’ De Guzman 3rd, the suspect in the killing of international car race driver Ferdinand “Enzo’’ Pastor in Quezon City on June 12, 2014.
De Guzman refused to enter plea when he was arraigned on Thursday.
Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 85 Judge Luisito Cortez ordered De Guzman to be detained in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City. De Guzman is the alleged lover of Dalia Guerrero-Pastor, Enzo’s wife. Dalia remains at large.
De Guzman’s lawyer, Dennis Manalo, earlier asked the court to allow his client to post bail, saying the prosecution has no proof to show that the evidence of guilt is strong.
Manalo said there is no evidence pointing to De Guzman as the mastermind. He said Police Officer 2 Edgar Angel retracted his extra-judicial confession that was used as the basis for the murder complaint.
Angel said in his extra-judicial confession that De Guzman paid him P100,000 to kill Pastor. But he later disowned the confession, saying it was given under force and intimidation.
