I am deeply shocked and saddened by the devastating news of terrorist attacks in Paris.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of France.
As we watch the horror unfold, we must remind ourselves not to let our guards down in our fight against terror. We are fully aware that the enemies of peace are often faceless and unseen. They, too, are without uniform or flag that can strike at will anywhere they wish. They have one singular objective: To divide us by striking fear, chaos, and confusion in us and immobilizing our institutions.
Nothing justifies terrorism, violence, and criminality. At present, we cannot predict how events will unfold or how fast these will unfold. I thus call on concerned state agencies to be alert against the entry of suspected terrorists into the country, strengthen security measures within our territorial boundaries, and coordinate preparations in the event of terrorist attacks however remote these may be.
More often than not, it is the vigilance of our ordinary citizens that makes the difference; thus, I ask our people to be immediately report movements of suspected persons, firearms, explosives, and other related materials.
Let us choose to stand united and persevere in creating a more tolerant, more just, and more caring society to break this cycle of terrorism, violence, and criminality in our midst.
