• NPA leader nabbed in Bicol

The second highest ranking officer of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in the Bicol regions was arrested late Tuesday night in a joint Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) operation in Cabuyao, Laguna province. Major Angelo Guzman, AFP spokesman for the Southern Luzon Command, identified the rebel leader as Reynaldo Hugo, who is wanted for multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder. Guzman said an internal dispute on extortion money led some rebels to point Hugo’s whereabouts to authorities. Last year, three ranking NPA officers were also arrested.
