BONTOC, MOUNTAIN PROVINCE: Two government troops were killed and two others were wounded during an encounter between New People’s Army and the combined team of the Regional Public Safety Batallion (RPSB), Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) and the Philippine Army’s 54th Infantry Batallion on Saturday at Bandung Hill in Dalikan, Bontoc. The incident, which happened as the NPA celebrated its 45th founding anniversary, resulted to the death of PO1 Marcelo Kilasen, a native of Bauko Mountain Province and PO1 Jefferson Sari from Benguet. Injured were PO1 Romeo Fakat of Bontoc and PO1 Benido Magan Jr. of Benguet. Philippine National Police-Mountain Province Police Director Supt. Oliver Enmodias said Bandung Hill near Aguid, Sagada is a strategic place for the NPA to camp because it is convenient for rebels to transfer from Mountain Province to Abra and vice versa. Last year, a similar encounter took place near the same hill, which resulted to the injury of two policemen.
