ZAMBOANGA CITY: The New People’s Army (NPA) have freed two government soldiers after a month of captivity in the province of Compostela Valley. Privates First Class Marjon Añover and Niño Alavaro were turned over to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday in the hinterlands of Laak town in Compostela Valley province.The soldiers were freed due to humanitarian reason after their families appealed to the NPA to release the prisoners of war. The families also appealed to Duterte to secure the safe release of the soldiers, who were seized at a rebel checkpoint in Monkayo town in Compostela Valley in September. The two soldiers are members of the Reengineered Special Operations Team of the 25th Infantry Battalion deployed in the province. Duterte handed over the soldiers to the Eastern Mindanao Command in Davao City. Army officials did not issue any statement on the release of the soldiers.
