• NPAs attack military’s gift-giving activity in Davao del Norte town

TALAINGOD, Davao del Norte: or less 10 fully-armed NPA communist rebels attacked the gift-giving activity of the Peace and Development Teams of 68th Infantry (Kaagapay) Battalion at Butay Elementary School Nasilaban Extension, Sitio Nasilaban, Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao del Norte on Thursday.

The troops led by Lt. Jay-ar Macayan were distributing gifts when the rebels opened fire from different directions without thinking that there were children that could be harmed.

Second Lieutenant Macayan immediately ordered the troops to seek cover and secure the school children and teachers inside the classrooms. The harassment lasted for 15 minutes. All the school children were safe but the incident brought them so much fear and trauma.

“The vicious actions of the NPA clearly show that they don’t care about the welfare of the civilians. All they want is to harass and disrupt the peace and development efforts of the government and see to it that the people will remain poor,” said Ltc. Oliveros, Commanding Officer of the 68th Infantry (Kaagapay) Battalion of the Philippine Army.

Oliveros said the activity was part of the Kaagapay Rolling Class Program of the unit intended to reinforce the education of the school children who are in need of support . PNA
