NPC forms panel to probe Jerry Yap’s arrest

The National Press Club on Monday said it is forming an independent body that will investigate the arrest of former NPC president Jerry Yap, also publisher of tabloid Hataw, on Easter Sunday despite the standing memorandum of agreement with government authorities. In a statement, Kristina Maralit, NPC secretary, said the organization shall not hesitate to discipline any of its erring official and member to include the ultimate penalty of expulsion, as the occasion demands. “In this investigation, the NPC also expresses the hope that those who have been most vigorous in casting aspersions against the NPC these past few days shall also show the same attitude when called forth by the panel for them to shed light on the incident and on what basis, if any, they issued their public statements greatly damaging to the club and its officers,” Maralit said.
