STATE-RUN National Power Corporation (NPC) has expressed readiness to face the planned class suit by Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado in connection with water discharge from Angat Dam.
NPC President and CEO Ma. Gladys Cruz Sta. Rita said there was no irregularity in the agency’s water spilling operations for Angat Dam.
“We believe we did the right thing and followed all existing procedures and protocol,” Sta. Rita said in a statement.
Sta. Rita said the inter-agency coordinating body is ready to present its position on the issue.
The inter-agency body is composed of the NPC, National Water Resources Board (NWRB), National Irrigation Authority (NIA), Manila Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
“The release of water is called for as a matter of necessity to arrest potential bigger risk that may endanger the whole province and Metro Manila,” Sta. Rita said.
Alvarado on Tuesday said he planned to file a class suit against the inter-agency body for the four-day water discharges from Angat Dam.
The governor said that the release of water worsened flooding in seven towns, particularly Calumpit and Hagonoy.
