NU stays alive in Final Four race


National University (NU) refused to surrender against a hardworking University of Santo Tomas (UST) squad, posting a 19-25, 25-11, 25-16, 21-25, 15-8 thrilling five-setter win in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 women’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Bulldogs, relying heavily on Jaja Santiago’s scoring prowess, avoided an early elimination by claiming their seventh victory against six losses that earned them the fourth place. The Tigresses, on the other side, got booted out with 5-8 win-loss record.

NU’s team captain Myla Pablo scored 18 points on 15 kills and three blocks while Santiago powered NU with 22 points including six service points and Jorelle Singh produced 14 kills for 15 points also for the Lady Bulldogs.

Skipper EJ Laure led UST with 18 points.

In the men’s action, University of the Philippines ousted UST, 25-22, 25-19, 26-24, to strengthen its chances of reaching the Final Four while Ateneo De Manila University toppled De La Salle University, 25-14, 25-20, 25-21, to secure a twice-to-beat edge in the Final Four.
