THE Philippine National Police (PNP) said the number of persons arrested for violating the nationwide election gun ban continues to rise two weeks after the holding of the synchronized elections. Figures from the PNP National Election Monitoring and Action Center (NEMAC) said latest figure showed 4,356 as of Monday. Civilians remain top violators with 4,170 arrested since January 10 when the gun ban took effect. Next are security guards with 54 arrested; elected or government officials with 35; 33 PNP personnel; 18 Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel; nine other law enforcement agencies and two from the Bureau of Fire and Protection. Also arrested were 22 members of various threat groups and 10 of private armed groups.
