United States President Barack Obama said he and wife Michelle are “deeply saddened” by the havoc caused by Typhoon Yolanda in central Visayas, but lauded the “incredible resiliency” of the Filipino spirit.
In a statement posted on the website of the White House, Obama said his government is already providing “significant humanitarian assistance” to the Philippines.
“But I know the incredible resiliency of the Philippine people, and I am confident that the spirit of Bayanihan will see you through this tragedy,” he said.
The leader of the global superpower also expressed his government’s commitment to “further assist the [Philippine] government’s relief and recovery efforts.”
