• October 28 a holiday


    President Benigno Aquino 3rd has declared October 28 a special non-working holiday
    throughout the country to allow voters to take part in the barangay elections.

    Under Proclamation 656 which he signed on September 25, Aquino said that “it is important to give the people the fullest opportunity to participate in the said elections and exercise their right to vote.”

    The Commission on Elections (Comelec) recorded 1.8 million new registrants for the barangay elections.

    President Aquino has yet to sign a bill postponing the Sangguniang Kabataan elections which is also scheduled on October 28. Congress moved the electoral exercise to 2016.
