Latest innovations for the ‘windows to the soul’
In the weeks before the Easter break, The Manila Times made its rounds in the beauty scene and discovered international companies banking on the saying: “The eyes are the windows to the soul.”
Guided by these words, Browhaus, Lunasol and LashEm—all with an aggressive presence in the Philippines—introduced innovative products aimed at enhancing the beauty of a woman’s eyes. Here are their latest products out in the market worthy of every Filipina’s attention.
For the brows
Since its entry in the Philippines in 2008, grooming salon Browhaus has come a long way in spreading awareness on the importance of good brows.
According to Browhaus Philippines marketing manager Monique Jamlang, Filipinas today are very conscious in shaping their brows no longer according to trends, but to suit their facial features. At the salon, they do so by availing a range of services from the brand’s signature and precise threading to its unique and semi-permanent brow resurrection depending on customer needs.
The Singapore-based company does not stop with their popular services. This year, their in-house research and development team came up with a complementary product called the Classic Brow Lead.
Introduced to the Philippine market via a media launch at Café Naya in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, the brow lead, according to Jamlang, was especially created with the modern woman’s lifestyle in mind.
She explained, “It is for the busy career woman who wakes up in the morning and doesn’t have enough time to put up on make-up for work. With our Brow Lead, they won’t need to be experts to apply a good brow with 24-hour lasting. We promise flawless brows with this as women go about their day.”
The brow lead comes in a smooth-finish pencil perfect to amp up sparse brows, and a soft-bristle brush on the other end for finishing touches.
For best results, fill in brow gaps with light, feathery strokes in the same direction as your hair growth, and brush stray hairs in place.
“Eyebrows should always be on point because they make or break your look. And for me, this is important because the eyes are the most important part of the face. They are the focal point when you are talking to a person. You don’t look at someone else’s cheeks or lips; you always look into their eyes to show sincerity,” Jamlang concluded.
Each box of the Classic Brow Lead comes with a sharpener. It is available in Blonde, Soft Brown, and Asphalt colors.
Browhaus has branches at Greenbelt in Makati City, Serendra in Taguig City, Lucky China Town in Manila, and Mega Fashion Hall in Madaluyong City.
For the lashes
Many Filipinas have experienced the joy of long and lush lashes through false extension services—only to discover the horror that once the “falsies” start falling, so do the natural ones. The end result is that lashes become more sparse.
This was the personal experience of Kim Bigornia, director and distributor of American brand LashEm, which makes its debut in the Philippines this March.
“For me, having long lashes are important because they are natural beautifiers that instantly frame the face and brighten the eyes even without using foundation or eyeshadow,” Bigornia said at the brand’s media launch at Holiday Inn Makati.
With this in mind, Bigornia searched for products and services available in Metro Manila for lashes, but was disappointed to find that only artificial lashes are available. Her other option was to use lash growing products prescribed by ophthalmologists, which, unfortunately, she found quite expensive.
Luckily, on one fateful trip to the US, Bigornia discovered LashEM and immediately fell in love with its star product, the All Eyes On You Eyelash Enhancing Serum.
Developed through expert hair technology, the formulation contains ingredients that aim to fortify eyelash growth. These are sympeptide that lengthens, thickens and strengthen hair, plant ingredients that block off free radical damage on hair, natural flower distillate that makes lash appear more lush, and the brand’s patented QuSome that seals ingredients together and improves skin’s nutrient absorption.
Prior to manufacturing, the serum was tried on 31 tester panelists who applied the products twice daily for four weeks. Sixty-eight percent experienced an increase in lash-length and density.
Her dream fulfilled, Bigornia then decided to share her beauty secret to fellow Filipinas.
To prove that the product is safe, Bigornia invited ophthalmologist Jesa Protasio and dermatologist Cecila Ramos-Bernad to her launch, where each also talked about lash care tips. Both agreed on the importance of properly removing eye make-up before sleeping, and replacing mascara every six months, among others.
LashEm is now available at SM Beauty Store at the SM Makati.
For the eyelids
With eyebrows and eyelashes looking groomed and healthy, the final step is to brighten the eyes for a more appealing look.
Enter Lunasol, the premiere make-up brand of trusted Japanese cosmetic company Kanebo, with the season’s trendiest eyehadow colors.
At an intimate press event at Rustan’s Shangri-La Plaza, Kanebo Philippines Marketing Manager Robby Da Silva unveiled Lunasol’s 2016 Spring collection. Called the “Sparkling Purification,” it carries color cosmetics for lips, cheeks and the eyes.
The Manila Times’ top pick is the Sparkling Eyes, a five-color eye shadow set in two choices, the Gold Sparkling and the Rose Pink Sparkling.
“As clear colors and light are carefully layered, a translucent depth is created on your eyes. Upon applying sparkly dazzles, the eyelids begin to glow with splendid shimmers,” Da Silva said of the palette.
He added that the Gold palette makes the eyes look “mature and intellectual,” while the Rose Pink set creates a very feminine and fragile appeal.
For her part, invited make-up artist Floe Tapayan revealed her personal favorite from the collection, the Sparkling Light Eyes. This three-toned palette featuring spring shades of blues, violets, and greens, as well as more shimmering golds, yellows, and beiges.
“Many Filipnas are afraid of these colors but what they don’t know is that blues, greens and violets actually bring out the brown eyes of the Filipinas,” she shared.
Choose from Blue Sparkling for a cool, sleek look; Violet Sparkling for a mature, sophisticated look; Green Sparkling for a lively, fresh finish; Beige Sparkling for a natural, healthy impression; and Pink Sparkling for soft and feminine vibe.
Lunasol is sold in Rustan’s Department Stores in the Philippines.
