BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya: Local government officials of Kasibu town and mining project host, Barangay Didipio, are demanding OceanGold Philippines Inc. (OGPI) to pay their taxes due the municipality and barangay. Mayor Chito Bumolo Jr. of Kasibu said that OGPI has not yet secured a mayor’s permit and paid their business tax amounting to more than P1 million, excluding the payment of Real Property Tax, in order for them to be issued with a permit to allow their operations. “This is just a simple requirement for them to settle and comply but they seemed to ignore it. This is a basic requirement for every business establishment before it can legally operate,” Bumolo said. OGPI went into full commercial operation on April 1 this year and has employed 1,700 employees and contractors where 98 percent are Filipino workers.
