• OFW, wife busted for guns, grenade and drugs

BACNOTAN, La Union: An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) and his wife were arrested after officers of the Bacnotan Police Office and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) raided the couple’s house in Barangay Guinabang here on Sunday. Reportedly seized from the duo were 10 sachets of shabu, two unlicensed guns and a grenade. Bacnotan Police Chief Fredelix Marron identified the suspects as Jabar Masorong, 32, and his wife, Asnaimah Maccalanggan-Masorong, 33. The couple, according to Deputy Police Chief Reginaldo Dalipias, denied owning the seized contraband saying they were mere visitors in the raided house. Jabar also reportedly claimed that he was there simply to borrow money so he could return to his work abroad. Both police officers confirmed that identified house owner Joel Valmonte escaped during the raid. They said the Masorong couple are actually the ones supplying Valmonte with drugs.
