Singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid has joined ABS-CBN via It’s Showtime’s popular “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment. After rumors circulated for sometime that he was leaving TV5, his appearance on the noontime show as one of the judges of the singing contest on Saturday confirmed that while it is uncertain whether he is an exclusive artist of the Kapamilya Network, he will be very visible on ABS-CBN.
Effectively, Alcasid is now also in competition with his wife Regine Velasquez mother studio GMA Network, where they met and fell in love before he jumped ship to TV5.
Alcasid posted a photo on Instagram on Saturday, saying he had fun singing with It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda, “Just sang with @praybeytbenjamin ang saya! @itsshowtimeofficial_ig #tnt.”
The post garnered 1,343 likes, and the reaction from netizens was unanimously positive, with some saying they wish his wife would follow suit.
User iamjc23 said, “Welcome to Kapamilya Sir Ogie. Sana next si Ms. @reginevalcasid naman lilipat!”
Jaya (@jayasoul), who transferred to ABS-CBN in July, also expressed her thoughts. “Congrats Pare @ogiealcasid sayang wala ako dyan to witness your performance. See you next week. God be praised.”
There were even those who wished his pal Janno Gibbs will also make the big move.
As of press time, The Manila Times has yet to hear from ABS-CBN on whether Alcasid signed an exclusive contract with the network. In the meantime, corporate communications released the following statement via email, detailing the singer-songwriter’s duties for the show.
“Like the other hurados (judges), [Alcasid] will evaluate the performances of hopefuls from contestants from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and Metro Manila. In his first appearance in the competition, Ogie made the audience laugh with his light jokes as he was giving his commentary as a hurado.”
On Saturday, during the Pinoy Boyband Superstar: The Grand Reveal, Alcasid was also named as one of the judges of Your Face Sounds Familiar: Kids to premier in 2017.
