OIC replaces fugitive Talitay mayor

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) installed town Coun. Kamid Buisan as acting Talisay mayor replacing Mayor Montassir Sabal who is now considered a fugitive from justice. Buisan has been tasked with restoring peace and order in the beleaguered municipality. The restoration of normalcy in Talitay, now known as Sultan Sumagca, came after a series of joint police and military operations against Sabal earlier exposed by President Rodrigo Duterte as among the “narco-politicians”. Buisan’s was designated mayor after Sabal went AWOL (absent without leave) for more than two months after operatives raided his house where several firearms were recovered. Sabal was described by the military as “most dreaded armed drug syndicate leader in Central Mindanao.” Lt. Colonel Markton Abo, spokesman for the 6th Infantry Division, said that the joint Army, police and anti-narcotics agents’ operation against the suspects “was meant to paralyze drug operations in Mindanao, dismantle this drug syndicate and remove the huge supply of drugs circulating in the area.”
