The first ever Oktoberfest in history took place on October 12, 1810 when Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig, later King Ludwig 1 of Bavaria, married German Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen from Sachsen.

To celebrate the occasion, a five-day festivity was held gathering over 40,000 revelers. Since then, this famous tradition has been held annually until it spread throughout other countries. By 1960, it became the largest festival in the world.
