The first ever Oktoberfest in history took place on October 12, 1810 when Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig, later King Ludwig 1 of Bavaria, married German Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen from Sachsen.
To celebrate the occasion, a five-day festivity was held gathering over 40,000 revelers. Since then, this famous tradition has been held annually until it spread throughout other countries. By 1960, it became the largest festival in the world.
Here in the Philippines, Oktoberfest began almost eight decades ago thanks to the 114-year-old German Club Manila, which has been hosting the “most authentic” beer festival for beer-lovers this part of the globe.
This 2015, the club is set to mark its 77th Oktoberfest and for this, it is partnering once again with Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila for the grandest beer festival slated on October 16 and 17 at the hotel’s Harbor Garden Tent.
Sofitel General Manager Adam Laker promised all those who will attend the festival an evening of towers of beer bubbling with time-honored German traditions, alongside local brands like the famous San Miguel. To complement the brews, Sofitel chefs will prepare a sumptuous stretch of Bavarian feast roasted pork knuckles, roasted calf, laugen rolls, grilled German sausages, and pastries.
Also invited for a musical delight is the Bavarian Sound Express, which has been performing for Manila’s Oktoberfest for 12 year already.
Exciting raffle prizes also await guests, who are encouraged to wear dirndls (for the ladies) and lederhosen (for the gentlemen).
Had too much beer to drink? No problem as the hotel is also offering a relaxing staycation after the party.
