OMB seizes P13.5-M pirated DVDs in Negros


BACOLOD CITY: Operatives of the Optical Media Board (OMB) and local police seized assorted pirated digital video discs (DVDs) amounting to P13.5 million during simultaneous raids on Friday at the public market in Barangay 1 Poblacion of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental. The operations yielded 97 sacks of fake DVDs and compact discs but no one was arrested, Supt. Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City police chief said, adding that several of the market stalls were abandoned by its owners during the raids. Each pirated DVD is being sold from P20 to P50 each. In similar operations last year in here P27-million worth of pirated DVDs and CDs were also seized by OMB operatives from the stockrooms of three commercial establishments in downtown area but selling have resumed after a few days.
