• Ombudsman sues Tacloban DSWD officer

AN official of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII in Tacloban City is facing a sexual harassment case before the Sandiganbayan for allegedly asking sexual favors from a young man seeking employment in his office in August 2011.

The Ombudsman accused former assistant Regional Director Jaime Eclavea for violation of Republic Act 7877, also known as the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995.

It was reported that the young man was seeking employment with the DSWD as Administrative Assistant under Kapit-bisig Laban Sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) program in Eclavea’s office.

Eclavea allegedly demanded from the applicant that he sleep with him in his lodging house with a threat that if the latter refuses, he would not be hired in the position applied for.

Asst. Special Prosecutor I Edgardo Noel Cruz said Eclavea committed the offense in relation to his official functions and took advantage of his position to unlawfully and criminally solicit sexual favors from the young man.
