One person was killed after the motorized boat Jeymartt capsized from high waves at about 200 meters away from the coast of Barangay Zaragoza, Surigao City on late Saturday.
Jeymartt was carrying 27 passengers but one passenger, Teofilo Saging, a 41-year old person with disability, was the lone casualty, according to reports from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). The boat was also carrying four crewmen.
The NDRRMC identified one of the survivors as Francis Al Naluan, a member of the Dinagat Islands Search and Rescue, who helped his companions be rescued. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) helped in the rescue.
The boat, which is owned by Rizal Tomines, was sailing from San Jose, Dinagat Islands for Surigao City.
The NDRRMC also reported that another motorized boat, Marsan, capsized between Camotes and Cebu Sea also on Saturday night. It was bound from Isla Kalibutan, Bohol to Pasil Port, Cebu. All its 21 passengers and six crewmen were safely rescued by the MV Filipinas Dinagat of Cokaliong Shipping Lines, LCT Golden Bridge and the PCG.
