When Happy Skin—a proudly Filipino cosmetic brand—was launched on October 18, 2013, it promised to bring the “best skin-caring makeup products” to the local market.
Since then, the brand has delivered on its vow, infusing precious ingredients for the skin such as Cherry Blossom or Japanese Tea Leaf Extracts, Argan Oil, Collagen, Shea Butter and Hyaluronic Acid in its constantly growing line. Be it Happy Skin lippies, liquid and powder foundations, blushes and eyeliners, they all carry nurturing components, which have only been available previously in imported cosmetics.
In fact, the brand even went as far as introducing Micellar water cleanser here, a beauty product that just recently excited foreign beauty capitals.
All this, the company achieved before they hit their first year anniversary, and
Happy Skin founders Jacque Yuengtian-Gutierrez and Rissa Mananquil-Trillo cannot be more thrilled at the remarkable growth of their baby.
On October 13, the self-confessed beauty junkie duo launched the latest additions to Happy Skin’s existing product catalogue, as well as limited-edition holiday collections at the Vanilla Cupcake Bakery in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
The year thus far
Gutierrez and Trillo happily reported to The Manila Times that Happy Skin has gained a loyal and strong following from makeup experts, beauty aficionados, and even makeup beginners in the last year.
Guttierez attributed the market’s response client satisfaction. “Every product that we launch satisfies the wants and needs of our customers in a particular makeup. We sit down and list the pros and cons of the existing competitive products in the market and then come up with all the things we wish they added in the ingredients, the feel of the packaging to make them better.”
And because all Happy Skin products are all especially manufactured in Japan or Taiwan upon the specifications of the founders, the brand has effectively addressed pressing concerns of Filipino women in cosmetics. Eyeliners that don’t budge; foundation that stays even on the oiliest skin; contouring capabilities that are barely noticeable; and eyeshadows that don’t crumble and leave loose specks on the face.
Simply put, Trillo enthused, “Filipinas like Happy Skin because we fulfill not just their beauty wishes but equally address all their frustrations with makeup. It’s women’s complaints that inspire our products.”
Thus, from only 10 makeup essentials a year ago, the brand has doubled the number of its products. Moreover, Happy Skin, which was initially available at selected Plains & Prints boutiques has rightfully gained its place inside the premier beauty stores of Rustan’s and Beauty Bar. Finally, the brand has also unveiled the store.happyskincosmetics.com for online sales.
Moreover, Happy Skin already has awards to be proud of from popular fashion and beauty magazines. Both Shut Up & Kiss Me Lippie in Summer Fling and Eye Need a Miracle were recognized in the last year alongside international brands.
“The year went by so fast,” Trillo exclaimed. “I can’t believe we’re already here. and we just want to celebrate with everyone who gave us a chance to prove our products when we were just starting out.”
In celebration of their milestone, Gutierrez and Trillo excitedly unveiled Happy Skin’s anniversary products.
Leading the list is a lip and cheek mousse under the Shut Up And Kiss Me line. According to Gutierrez, while she was never a fan of lip and cheek tint, Happy Skin still acknowledged the need for such a product because of its convenience.
Not wanting to compromise, she recalled, “We searched for a formulation that will look lovely on the lips while still be very spreadable on the cheeks. We found the perfect solution with a mousse formula.”
The lip and cheek mousse gives a velvety and rich texture upon application. Once dry, it turns semi-matte giving Happy Skin lovers another option besides the glossy lippies.
But take note that just like the lippies, the mousse also hydrates with Shea Butter, repairs with collagen, rejuvenates with Peptides, and protects with SPF 15.
Touted as the brand’s “next big thing,” this range of lip and cheek mousse comes in shades of red, pink, and taupe.
Trillo’s personal favorite, on the other hand, is Happy Skin’s first eyeshadow palette. She shared, “I love wearing eyeshadow. Modelling for so many years, I’ve seen the magic it can do. The right eyeshadow can make eyes look bigger, brighter and more beautiful. For Happy Skin’s first ever eyeshadow palette, we made sure to feature four ultra wearable shades that complement each other and also flatter every skin tone.”
The four-color palette—champagne shimmer, pastel pink, warm copper, and matte brown—is Happy Skin’s response to the clamor of loyal fans, noted Trillo.
The last one is the Eye Need A Miracle Corrector, a sister product of the Eye Need a Miracle Concealer. While the concealer is yellow-based to cover up mild disco-lorations, the corrector is salmon-hued to hide deeper and darker impurities.
For the holidays
For the Christmas season, the “Save Room for Dessert,” the collection offers four tin sets that make indulgent gifts.
The Eye Candy tin can containing four mini gel eyeliners in shades of Plum, Watermelon, Cotton Candy and Butterscotch.
Then, there are also two sets of Shut Up And Kiss Me lippies. The Forbidden Fruit set carries darker holiday hues of bold red, mocha nude, and berry pink, while the Sealed with a Kiss contains Happy Skin’s best-selling shades of pink, peach and nude.
Last but not the least is the Served on A Silver Platter tin, a combo of four of the brand’s most loved cosmetics: Shut Up and Kiss Me Honeymoon Glow lippie, Get Cheeky With Me blush in First Kiss, Eye Am Here to Stay 24H Gel Eyeliner, and SS Cream, plus a foundation brush.
