Only 7 MRT trains operational on school opening

Only seven of the usual 20 Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 trains were operational to service the commuters, especially students, on the first day of school. This was disclosed by MRT General Manager Roman Buenafe noting that the problem was due to the busted air conditioning system of the train coaches. He said there are usually 20 trains that ply the EDSA route to serve about half a million passengers per day. Buenafe said that based on the contract of MRT 3 with maintenance provider APT Global, there must be 20 trains running on peak hours while 14 trains and above must be operational for non-peak hours to ensure efficient service to the riding public. He explained that based on protocol, coaches must always be in the best condition before deployment. As of press time, the MRT official has yet to determine the completion of maintenance works for the remaining train coaches.

  1. What is needed at MRT is to change its staff from top to bottom.
The trains still could be made to run few years more. Interruptions are mainly caused by incompetence of both service provider and the agency MRT.
While it’s running at below efficiency level the management could process the replacement by open bidding to qualified service/maintenance providers.
The state of the MRT is mainly a result of too much politics. Choice of people and
machine are decided by politics. So dirty that sometimes it’s getting hopeless.

  2. Bise Binay should also make MRT/LRT performance as one of his issues. Bise Binay might as well declare war on Presidente Noynoy and Malakanyang crazy cohorts who are making the MRT/LRT a cash cow. Plunder!!!!

  3. hindi ko alam kung saan kumukuha ng kapal ng mukha ang mga opisyales ng DOTC at hindi maresolba resolba ang problemang ito ng MRT.
