SANTIAGO CITY: Admitting that they were afraid to die, 400 more illegal drug users and pushers have surrendered under the “Oplan Double Barrel” campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the provinces of Isabela and Quirino.
Mayor Joseph Tan said the initial 60 people who surrendered here and promised to stop using and selling illegal drugs will be provided livelihood assistance seeing their sincerity to lead a new life.
Records of the PNP provincial office show an increasing number of drug users and dealers turning themselves in daily in several towns in Isabela.
In Ilagan City, 180 people involved in drug activities voluntarily surrendered; 45 in Reina Mercedes town; 54 in San Mateo; and 43 in San Agustin. The top two among the four drug personalities have already surrendered in Alicia town.
Meanwhile, about 200 more are expected to surrender in Ramon town based on the list presented by the police.
In Quirino province, 33 drug pushers and users in Maddela town also turned themselves in and took their oath of undertaking, putting a stop to their illegal activities.
Earlier this month, about 200 people from the towns of Ilagan and San Agustin took the pledge to turn a new leaf.
