Police officers have knocked on more than one million houses since the Philippine National Police (PNP) implemented an intensified campaign against illegal drugs on July 1.
Data from the PNP’s National Operation Center showed that as of September 20, 1,077,582 houses have been visited by the police, resulting in the surrender of 715,699 drug suspects — 662,594 of them users and 53,105 pushers.
The PNP said 18,814 police operations were conducted under “Oplan Tokhang,” leaving 1,167 drug suspects dead and 18,064 others arrested.
Police officials hope that the estimated 1.8 million drug suspects in the country will yield to authorities during the first six months of President Rodrigo Duterte.
At the same time, the PNP is investigating the 1,651 drug deaths, including the killing carried out by unidentified persons or groups.
