THE Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday said that senior high school [Grade 11 and 12] will be implemented in June 2015, but clarified that it will be ton a voluntary basis.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said the curriculum for Grade 11 will only become mandatory nationwide in June 2016.
Grade 11 is the first of the two-year levels to be added to the current four-year high school curriculum under the government’s flagship Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-to-12) program.
“Sabi ni Pangulo na hiningi rin natin na sana half of senior high school [enrollment]na dapat sa 2016 ay gawin by 2015.[The President said, and we also asked, that half of the incoming senior high school students by 2016 should already start by 2015. So when school opens in June 2015, we will start Grade 11],” Luistro said.
“[Having Grade 11] will just be voluntary in 2015. [As planned] it will become mandatory in 2016,” the DepEd chief added.
According to Luistro, the Education department is targetting to get about 300,000 students who would have finished junior high school in March 2015.
