• Oral arguments on Torre de Manila case resume Tuesday

    1

The oral arguments on the case of Torre de Manila, the so-called “photobomber” of the monument of Gat. Jose P. Rizal, will resume at the Session Hall of the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday afternoon.

Set to appear before the SC at 2 p.m. Tuesday to present their side of the case are DMCI Homes (DMCI), the developer of Torre de Manila; the City Government of Manila and the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).
Acting Chief Justice Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio will again serve as the presiding officer of the SC en banc to hear the oral arguments.
This was after Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno filed again a leave of absence beginning on Monday afternoon.
The leave of absence was again filed after a two-week “wellness leave” of the Chief Justice which coincided with the first day of the oral arguments on the case of Torre de Manila last July 21.
Associate Justice Jose Portugal Perez earlier inhibited himself from the case because a member of his family had purchased a condominium unit from the DMCI.

May I would like to reiterate my Win-Win suggestion yesterday to the problem of Torre de Manila as:
      1) That DMCI and the City Manila build or transfer the Rizal Monument to the middle of Manila Bay like that of the Statue of Liberty at New York. The statue of Rizal be movable facing the City of Manila in the morning and in the afternoon facing Manila Bay so tourists can see the beauty of ” Sunset over Manila Bay “. That the expenses of building the monument will be shouldered by DMCI and the City of Manila. I am sure that the monument will be a tourist attraction, Foreign or Local, by the World Famous “Sunset Over Manila Bay “.
      2) Give the operation of the motor boat that will bring tourists to the monument of Rizal be operated by the Knight of Rizal who ill take care of its cleanliness.
      3) That DMCI can again construct a ” Kambal Torre de Manila ” like the Twin Tower of New York and the City of Manila can give applicants who would like to construct high rise building in Manila without any problem of being charge of being a ” Photo Bomber ” as it can give collateral works to Manilenous.
I do hope that DMCI, Mayor Erap and City Council Of Manila will consider my suggestion.
