Former world champions Dennis Orcollo and Rubilen Amit will spearhead the country’s campaign in the 2016 World 9-Ball Open beginning on Friday at the Pudong Tangzhen Culture and Sports Center in Shanghai, China.
Orcollo, the 2011 World 8-Ball Championship winner, will be joined by veteran campaigners Jeffrey Ignacio and Jeffrey De Luna in the men’s division of the tournament sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association.
On the other hand, Amit, the 2009 and 2013 Women’s World 10-Ball Championship titlist, will be playing along with Singapore Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Chezka Centeno.
The 17-year-old Centeno recently ruled the 2016 Amway eSpring International Women 9-ball Championship held in New Taipei City in Taiwan where she defeated former world No. 1 Kelly Fisher of United Kingdom in the finals, 11-8.
A total of $373,600 cash prize is up for grabs in the tournament with the men’s champion getting $40,000 and the women’s titlist receiving $36,000.
Also seeing action are newly-crowned 2016 WPA World 9-Ball Championship winner Albin Ouschan, Darren Appleton, Mika Immonen, Thorsten Hohmann, Ralf Souquet, Noyuki Oi, Liu Haitao, Pin-Yi Ko, Chen Siming, Liu Sha Sha, Kim Ga-Young, Kelly Fisher, Jasmin Ouschan, Chihiro Kawahara and Chou Chieh-Yu.
The Philippines has already won two titles in the men’s competition.
Orcollo claimed the country’s first title in 2012 while Lee Vann Corteza completed a back-to-back for the Philippines when he ruled the 2013 edition.
