Ten Filipino cue masters will begin their campaign in group stage of the 2016 World 9-Ball Open being held at the Pudong Tangzhen Culture and Sports Center in Shanghai, China.
Former world champion Dennis Orcollo battles Wu Kunlin in Group B while Johann Chua takes on Hussain Bashater Abdulmajeed in Group C of the tournament sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association.
Playing in Group D are Warren Kiamco and Jeffrey De Luna as the former tackles Aloysius Yapp and the latter facing Yang Chingshun.
Carlo Biado and Jeffrey Ignacio are in Group E while Lee Vann Corteza is in Group F and Alex Pagulayan in Group H.
Biado meets Robert Folfvari, Ignacio takes on Gergory Harada, Corteza fights Wen Yu and Pagulayan goes up against Fan Zhisong.
The organizers will employ a double elimination format in the group stage.
The top four players in each group will advance to the knockout stage.
Former two-time World 10-Ball champion Rubilen Amit and 2016 Amway eSpring International Women 9-ball Championship will don the national colors in the women’s division.
Amit earned an opening-game bye in Group F and will play the winner between Ting Guo and Liu Shin-Mei while Centeno also secured a bye in Group C, awaiting the triumphant in the Kristina Grim-Choi Solip game.
Unlike in the men’s class, only the top two players in the women’s side will barge in the 16-player main draw of the event, which offers a whopping $373,600 total cash prize.
The men’s champion stands to receive $40,000 and the women’s titlist will get $36,000.
