Filipino cue master Dennis Orcollo claimed his second title this year after topping the Sidepocket’s Open 9-Ball Championship held at the Sidepocket Billiards Shreveport in Los Angeles, California.
The 37-year-old Surigao del Sur native posted a 7-5 win over two-time World Pool-Billiard Association World 9-Ball champion Johnny Archer of US in the finals.
Orcollo, fresh from a runner-up finish in the 2nd Texas 10-Ball Championship, pocketed the $3,200 top purse while Archer, who ruled the 1992 and 1997 editions of the World 9-Ball meet, settled for $1,800 runner-up purse.
Orcollo was undefeated in the tournament to automatically advance to the finals.
He ousted Archer in the quarterfinals (7-4) and another American in Skyler Woodward in the semifinals (7-5).
In the losers’ bracket, Woodward defeated Filipino Robert Gomez, 7-4, and American Joey Barnes, 7-3.
Archer, however, ousted Woodward in their do-or-die match, 7-3, to arrange a championship showdown with Orcollo.
Woodward finished third for $900 while Warren Kiamco ended up fourth for $500.
Last month, Orcollo dominated the Derby City Classic 2016 14.1 Challenge.
He also placed second in the DCC 2016 Master of the Table, and third in the DCC 9-Ball Division and DCC 10-Ball Challenge.
