• Orcollo rules Texas 9-ball championship


    Former world champion Dennis Orcollo bagged his fifth title this year after ruling the 2015 Space City Open 9-Ball Championship held at the Bogies Billiards and Sports Bar in Houston, Texas.

    The 36-year old Orcollo displayed impressive ball positioning and powerful breaks to outclass unheralded American cue master Shane Winters in the championship round.

    Orcollo pocketed the $2,350 top purse while Winters settled for the $1,390 consolation purse.

    Venezuela’s Jerry Calderon placed third followed by Americans Robb Saez, Sylver Ochoa, Tom Mooney, Chip Compton, Tony Chohan, Abel Lara, Tommy Tokoph, Jamie Farrell and Shane McMinn.

    Orcollo earlier ruled the US Open 8-Ball Championship, Super Billiards Expo Players Championship, Carom Room Fall Classic and 1st Annual Tornado Open Men’s 10-Ball Championship.

    He also reclaimed the gold medal in the men’s 9-Ball pool singles of the 2015 Southeast Asian Games held in Singapore in June.

    Overall, Orcollo has $85,358 earnings this year to take the No. 6 spot in the AzBilliards Money Maker list.

    Great Britain’s Darren Appleton is on top with $148,778 followed by Americans Shane Van Boening ($132,376) and Justin Bergman ($103,990), Taiwanese Ko Pin-Yi ($102,700), and Filipino-Canadian Alex Pagulayan ($88,278).

    The other Filipinos in the list are No. 13 Warren Kiamco ($54,705), No. 30 Carlo BIado ($34,060), No. 35 Jeffrey Ignacio ($28,775), No. 43 Johann Chua ($23,105), No. 45 Lee Vann Corteza ($21,500) and No. 55 Efren Reyes ($16,415).
