Former world champion Dennis Orcollo went undefeated to rule the Carom Room Fall Classic held at the Carom Room in Beloit, Wisconsin in US.
The 36-year-old Orcollo outclassed legendary cue master Johnny Archer in the finals via a 9-5 victory to earn a whopping $8,000 top purse in the tournament that saw 96 entrants from different parts of the world.
Archer settled for the $4,900 runner-up prize.
Orcollo, the 2011 World Eight-Ball titlist and 2010 Asian Games gold medalist, defeated Canadians Jason Klatt and John Morra, and Americans Shane Van Boening, Skyler Woodward and Tony Chohan.
It was Orcollo’s third title this year after topping the US Open 8-Ball Championships in July and the Super Billiards Expo Players Championship in April.
Meanwhile, Hall of Famer Efren “Bata” Rayes has been chosen as team captain of Team East, which will be facing Team Europe/US in the 2015 Kings Cup scheduled on November 19 to 21 at the Resorts World Manila Casino and Hotel in Pasay City.
“Being named captain of Asia is a big responsibility. But I know our Asia team players are all really good, so it’s going to be a joint effort together,” said Reyes in a statement.
Reyes, 61, is the most decorated Filipino cue master. He won numerous world titles including the 1999 World 9-Ball Championship held in Cardiff, Wales.
This year, Reyes claimed the top honors of the Accu-Stats One Pocket Tournament in New Jersey, US.
“It’s always more pressure at home. The fans expect so much of me. Anything can happen because all the other players want to beat me in front of the world. I have a target on my back and I know it,” Reyes ended.
