Ormocanon powerlifter Regie Ramirez bagged a gold medal in the individual event of the Junior World Championship in Texas on August 26. He finished third overall in the competition.
Ramirez’s Finnish coach Tony Koykka said that his ward is due to compete in the Asian Junior Championship scheduled in Manila in December. He added that another Asian contest is scheduled in May next year in a yet to be determined venue. Koykka said that he is happy that Ramirez applied everything that he had been taught during training.
Ramirez, 20, said that his secret to winning is maintaining a happy attitude even when lifting heavy weights. Ramirez was given a hero’s welcome in Ormoc City upon his return from the US.
