Filipino netters John Bryan Decasa Otico and Arthur Craig Pantino blasted their respective foes to advance to the third round of the 2017 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Championships Week 2 boys’ singles being held at the National Tennis Development Center in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
The top-ranked Otico posted an easy 6-2, 6-1 victory over Taiyo Hirano of Japan while Pantino stamped his class over wild card Pawin Jirapoomdaje of Thailand via a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Otico, 18, will be meeting Michael Mathayomchand of Thailand who ousted 13th seed Zheng Yanjie of China (6-2, 6-2) then Pantino takes on Keisuke Saitoh of Japan, a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 winner over 14th seed Noppadol Noikor of Thailand.
Otico and Pantino were given opening-round byes.
Filipino-Spanish Diego Garcia Dalisay, on the other hand, scored a 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3 come-from-behind win over Rattanan Siritaworachan of Thailand in the first round but bowed out of contention after suffering a 4-6, 1-6 loss to fourth seed Rishabh Sharda of India in the next round.
In doubles, Otico and Pantino battle Kun Liu of Taiwan and Sumitpal Singh of India in the second round of the Grade Four tournament.
The top-seeded pair of Otico and Pantino secured a first-round bye while Kun and Singh overpowered Thai duo Patorn Hainchaikul and Pasawee Reansuwong in the first round (6-3, 6-2).
Dalisay and Stephan Lhuillier also got the boot following their 4-6, 1-6 loss to Japanese bets Kei Manaka and Shunsuke Mitsui.
Otico shoots for his second straight title and fourth overall this year.
He dominated the Week 1 competition of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Championships last week.
