THE number of persons arrested for violation of the nationwide election gun ban breached the 500 mark on Monday with most of those nabbed civilians, according to police data.
Figures from the National Election Monitoring and Action Center (NEMAC) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said 533 individuals have been apprehended by the police.
The 533 arrested, 514 were civilians, three policemen, four elected government officials, seven security guards, two militiamen and four members of other law enforcement agencies such as the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
According to the same figures, since the election gun ban took police were able to seize a total of 323 assorted firearms and 3,173 deadly weapons in more than a thousand checkpoints set up by the police across the country.
NEMAC said the police have also seized in the checkpoints 12 firearms replica, 14 grenades, seven types of explosives and 3,140 assorted ammunition for different types of firearms.
