MIAMI: Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, whose National Football League team was haunted last season by a hazing scandal, says the club would welcome the league’s first openly gay player. In a statement released on Wednesday on the team’s website, Ross praised the announcement this week by star University of Missouri defensive end Michael Sam that he is gay. Sam, rated among the top 100 prospects for this year’s NFL draft before his revelation, would become the first openly homosexual player on an NFL roster should he be selected as expected and sign a deal with one of the league’s 32 clubs.
