OWWA has new chief


President Benigno Aquino 3rd has appointed Labor Assistant Secretary Rebecca Calzado as the new administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Calzado’s appointment was signed by Aquino last May 30.

Calzado replaces Carmelita Dimzon who left the agency quietly. Palace deputy spokesman Abigail Valte did not say why Dimzon resigned.

Calzado, 59, also served as deputy executive director IV of the National Wages and Productivity Commission.

Valte said the President also appointed four ambassadors: Domingo Nolasco (Italy), Wilfredo Santos (Qatar), Melita Santa Maria Thomeczek (Germany) and Nathaniel Imperial (Israel).

Their appointments are subject to confirmation by the Commission on Appointments.
The President also appointed Reydeluz Conferido as new undersecretary in the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), replacing Danilo Cruz.

He also named Gloria Arcos, Carmelita Divinagracia, Carfredda Dumlao, Florence Cawaon and Glenda Arquiza as new members of the Professional Regulatory Board of Nursing under the Professional Regulatory Commission.

Also appointed were Pericles Dakay as chairman of the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board with Victorino Benjamin Lahoz and Farouk Macarambon Sr. as its members.

Other appointees were Francis Gealogo, member of the board of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines; George Colorado, acting director 4 of the Commission on Higher Education; Sisinio Cano, director 4 of DOLE; Mary Grace Riguer, acting deputy executive director 3, Institute for Labor Studies of DOLE; Jeanette Damo, acting deputy executive director 4 of the National Wages and Productivity Board; Reynaldo Tamayo, director 4 of the Department of Public Works and Highways; and Mary Angelene Arabit-Tamayo Gemma Gabuya and Venus Rebuldela, acting directors of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
