The Department of Agriculture (DA) has poured over P1.1-billion worth of projects and farm equipment in Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte to further boost agriculture and fisheries output in the provinces.
Agriculture Sec. Proceso Alcala led the turnover of the farm inputs, machinery and infrastructure to the local governments of the two provinces and to various farmer cooperatives and irrigator associations.
A total of P457-million worth of projects was given to Compostela Valley, while P646-million worth of projects was discharged to Davao del Norte.
“The mass turnover of projects in Compostela Valley was a continued effort towards the full recovery of Typhoon Pablo-affected areas and at the same time, building on the valuable agricultural resources of the province,” Alcala said.
Alcala also hailed the resiliency and the unity of the local officials and agri-stakeholders in building back better agricultural facilities and livelihood enterprise for farmers to recover and improve productivity.
Meanwhile, the turnover of DA projects at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex also provided a venue not only to deliver various forms assistance, but also highlighted the administration’s concern in promoting inclusive growth.
Davao del Norte is the leading producer of banana in the country, and one of DA’s thrusts is to help beef up the banana industry, Alcala said.
