P10-million destroyed in fire at MC Home Depot

A fire believed to have been caused by fluctuating power supply in the MC Home Depot in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig destroyed at least P10 million of property and goods before dawn on Monday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started at around 2 a.m. inside the establishment located along 32nd Street of the commercial district.

No one was reported injured in the fire that reached fifth alarm or Task Force Alpha alert and was declared out past at 3:55 a.m.

The BFP said it is still investigating the fluctuating power supply in the area as the cause of the fire.

The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) quickly denied such claims of fluctuating power as the cause of fire since “power interruptions don’t cause fires,” the Meralco said.

“MC Home Depot did not experience any power interruption as it is connected to another substation. It was not in any way affected by the reported interruption at BGC,” it said.

Meralco added that establishments have protection/safety facilities in place as required by the Philippine Electrical Code.
