P12.8-B in tourism receipts for Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY: Bacolod City posted Php12.8 billion in tourism receipts during the fiscal year 2014, records of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 6 show.

DOT-6 Regional Director Helen Catalbas reported that Bacolod came second behind Aklan, the host-province of island-resort of Boracay in Malay town, which generated P43.78 billion, with 1.6 million tourist arrivals last year.

Bacolod was followed by Iloilo City, with P12.26 billion. The provinces of Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras and Negros Occidental earned a combined P18.88 billion in 2014.

“Congratulations to the people of Bacolod for being the second top tourist destination in Region 6,” Mayor Monico Puentevella said.

The mayor also lauded the efforts of travel agencies, travel agents, and airlines.

Puentevella noted that Ba-colod has higher tourism receipts even if Iloilo has a bigger airport and has more direct flights from abroad.
