• P2-M ‘pork’ for Batanes not under Abad tenure

House Deputy Speaker Hene-dina Abad of Batanes lashed back at Sen. Jinggoy Estrada for questioning the P2-million worth of Priority Dev-elopment Assistance Fund released to her province from 2007 to 2009, saying that such fund wasn’t released under her tenure.

Deputy Speaker Abad, the wife of Secretary Florencio Abad of the Department of Budget and Management, noted that she wasn’t a lawmaker during 2007 to 2009 or during the homestretch of the administration of then President Gloria Arroyo.

Abad said that while she has been a lawmaker from 2004 to 2007, Batanes stopped receiving PDAF by 2005 after her husband, then Education Secretary, re-signed from his post along with other Cabinet and key officials in July 2005 because of the “Hello Garci” controversy—an audio recording which featured then incumbent President and Pre-sidential candidate Arroyo talking to Commission on Elections Commissioner Virgilio Garcilla-no at the height of the counting of votes during the 2004 polls.
