The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said its operatives confiscated P24 million worth of counterfeit products in separate operations recently. In a statement, NBI Director Dante Gierran assured that all operations were backed up by search warrants issued by courts and were conducted in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry and the Philippine National Police. Violators, although they were not named, were charged for violation of Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. Last July 19, NBI-National Capital Region operatives seized P20.350 million worth of fake Lacoste products in Pasay City and Binondo, Manila. On the same day, agents of the NBI-Intellectual Property Rights Division confiscated in simultaneous operations in Manila, Caloocan and Quezon City fake Taiyo welding cables worth P3 million. Last July 26, fake Jo Malone perfumes with an estimated value of P1.590 million were seized in Manila.
