THE Philippine Drug Enforce-ment Agency (PDEA), in colla-boration with law enforcement units in Benguet, destroyed P27.7-million worth of mari-juana plantations in two remote barangays in Kibungan.

PDEA Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr. said that during the operation, which was conducted from October 30 to November 3, authorities discovered 62 plantation sites in Sitios Les-eng, Todag, Wallayan, Batangan, Bacbacan, Pingew and Culiang in Barangay Tacadang, and Sitio Deckan in Barangay Badeo. Confiscated were 97,100 pieces of fully grown plants; 15,225 pieces of marijuana seedlings; 2,000 grams of dried leaves; 60,000 grams of marijuana stalks; and 5,000 grams of seeds.

“The various marijuana cultivation sites, with an aggregate land area of 2.12 hectares, were situated in the sitios of barangays of Tacadang and Tadeo in Kibungan, Benguet. 94.34 percent of these cultivation sites were found in Tacadang, while the other 5.66 percent were in Badeo,” Cacdac said.

He added that dialogues, consultations and dissemination of information on the ill effects of marijuana use, legal impli-cations of marijuana production and trading, participation of the community in the enforcement of the anti-drug law and other related issues were conducted by the anti-narcotics operatives to the residents of the barangays.

Chief Supt. Benjamin Ma-galong, director of Police Regional Office in Cordillera, praised the success of the operating team and the co-operation of the community.

“We appeal to our people to continue helping our law enforcers drive out illegal activities in their community through providing vital information,” Magalong said.
