• P2P bus riders to get discounts

To lure more passengers, the government has offered fare discounts and unlimited rides during weekends for its point-to-point (P2P) express and double-decker bus service that has been plying along Epifanio de lots Santos Avenue (EDSA).

Cabinet Secretary and traffic czar Jose Rene Almendras said this is one way of encouraging commuters to patronize P2P, which aims to provide alternative mode of transportation and ease traffic along EDSA.

The P2P bus service has three routes – Trinoma to Glorietta 5, SM North EDSA to Glorietta 5 and SM Megamall to Glorietta 5.

The P2P is a project jointly undertaken by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Almendras said the three agencies have agreed to lower the fares of the express bus system.

He said the standard rate from Trinoma and SM North EDSA to Makati was reduced to P55 from its original rate of P60.

In the case of Persons with disabilities (PWDs), students and senior citizens, their fare has been further discounted to P40.

A group of five regular passengers can also get a P10-discount from its standard rate making it P45 per person.

For SM Megamall- Makati route, the standard fare was lowered to P40 for regular passengers, P30 for PWDs, students and senior citizens and P35 for a group discount.

”We have seen 20 percent of private car owners from Trinoma have acknowledged that they want the express busses,” Almendras said.

Launched in December 2015, the Premium P2P bus service is meant to shorten travel time since buses depart on a fixed schedule and travel directly from the terminal to the drop-off point.

Almendras added the P2P also offers a Weekend Unli promo for only P100 wherein a passenger can ride from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The P2P bus express service is available from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Passengers can make reservations on a particular seat where he or she wants to and back to his or her destination. Standing is not also allowed on this service.
